Window Tint Films

Most window films try to block heat and look cool. Unfortunately most don’t end up doing either of them well. Our installation of XPEL PRIME XR ensures that you get maximum heat, UVA, and UVB protection, without the ultra dark look that makes it difficult to see out of the vehicle and that can end up getting you a ticket in certain areas.

XPEL PRIME XR’s blocks 99% of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays, and more than 80% of its heat and infrared radiation. Additionally, it manages to do this without using metallic ingredients other films use that can interfere and disrupt radio, cell phone, and Bluetooth usage inside the vehicle.

Our Cutting-Edge Technology Makes A Great Car Even Better

The sun never shows any mercy.

If left unprotected, the interior surfaces of your vehicle, including the leathers, fabrics, plastics, and dashboard, can worsen and discolor quickly from the constant exposure to the sun’s heat and rays. If you’ve ever driven in the heat of the summer, you very well might know the pains and troubles of getting inside a vehicle that’s been parked and exposed to the sun. Our installation of XPEL PRIME XR brings you the same level of protection inside the car as you can get from our XPEP ULTIMATE PLUS protection outside of the car.

Ceramic Particle Technology

XPEL PRIME XR contains ceramic particles that filter out the sun’s infrared radiation — making them more effective than traditional metallized or dyed films.

Superior Heat Rejection

XPEL PRIME XR's particle technology blocks the vast majority of the sun’s heat-causing infrared radiation — keeping your interior cool and improving fuel efficiency.

UV Ray Protection

XPEL PRIME XR provides SPF 1,000 protection that effectively blocks over 99% of harmful UVA and UVB rays that can lead to numerous skin cancers, premature aging and skin cell damage.

Greater Clarity

In the past, keeping cool meant darker shades. The ceramic technology in XPEL PRIME XR allows us to provide the highest performance without sacrificing clarity and color.

Crystal Clear Signal

Our nano-ceramic particle technology does not interfere with radio, cellular, and Bluetooth signals like traditional metallized films.

Our products will protect your investment with best-in-class durability, performance, appearance, and overall quality.

FAQ’s About Window Tinting

What is the darkest you can tint your car?

Legal Window Tint: While there are no federal laws governing windshield tint, Texas does have window film regulations. What level of tint Texas allows varies depending on which window (front sides, rear sides, rear, windshield, etc) you are referring to.

Window tint percentage is measured by visible light transmittance (VLT), or the amount of light passing through the windows.  “Limo tint”, for example, has a 5 percent VLT.

Most new vehicles come with factory tint already installed. You must account for this whenever adding a new tint. This is done by multiplying the percentages.  Check out our page on current tint laws in Texas.

Most manufacturer’s tint will be no darker than 70 percent VLT. So, if you already have an 80 percent VLT and add a 30 percent to it, you will arrive at a 24 percent VLT (.80 x .30 = .24).

Can you legally tint your front windshield in Texas?

Yes, you can legally tint the top portion of your front windshield in Texas, but the tint must not reduce the visible light transmission below 25% and must be placed above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line or the top 5 inches of the windshieldYou can also apply clear, untinted UV-blocking film to the entire windshield, but this film cannot have a combined light transmittance of less than 70%.

Legal Tinting for Windshields in Texas

  • Top 5 inches/AS-1 LineYou are permitted to apply a sun-screening device or tint to the top 5 inches of your windshield.
  • Light TransmittanceThe tint must allow 25% or more of visible light to pass through.
  • ReflectanceThe tint should not have a luminous reflectance value greater than 25%.
Medical Exemptions
  • Physician’s Letter:
If you have a medical condition that requires a darker window tint, you can apply for a medical exemption from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Exemption Process:
You must get a signed letter from your doctor explaining your medical need for the darker tint and submit it to the Texas Department of Public Safety to apply for the exemption.
What to Avoid
  • Tints Below the LineTinting below the AS-1 line or the top 5 inches of your windshield is illegal.
  • Darker TintYou cannot have a tint that reduces visible light transmission below 25%.
  • Prohibited ColorsRed, blue, and amber tints are not allowed on vehicles in Texas, as they are reserved for emergency vehicles.

Is XPEL Nano Ceramic tint worth it?

So, is ceramic tint worth it? If you prioritize UV protection, long-term performance, and heat rejection, the answer is yes. What cleaners do you recommend for tinted windows?

With tinted windows, it’s important that your window cleaner is ammonia-free! A few good options are Invisible Glass, and Meguiar’s Glass Cleaner.

I always hear the benefits of tinting my windows – are there any concerns with tinting a vehicle or my house or office building windows?

There are a few concerns to keep in mind:

  1. Most states have laws concerning how dark your vehicle’s window tint can be.   Check out our page on Texas Tint laws
  2. Any kind of Window tint that is installed incorrectly can crack, bubble, and peel.  Cheap and low quality tint will certainly discolor and bubble in a short amount of time.. we recommend using a high quality tint with a lifetime warranty, like what we offer at Mark Customs.. XPEL Window Tint!
  3. Window tinting that is too dark can limit visibility in certain situations.  Let us talk you through our recommendations to give you the best balance of privacy and safety!  Call us or stop by anytime.

How dark is 25% tint?

A 25% tint is moderately dark, allowing 25% of visible light to pass through and blocking 75%. This level offers good privacy and glare reduction but can compromise visibility in low-light conditions at night. The lower the percentage, the darker the tint, so 25% is a practical choice that balances aesthetics and functionality.

What 25% Tint Means

  • The percentage (25%) indicates the percentage of visible light, or Visible Light Transmission (VLT), that is allowed to enter the vehicle.
  • A 25% tint blocks 75% of the light from entering your car.

Pros of 25% Tint

  • Enhanced Privacy:

It significantly limits the view into your vehicle, providing a good level of privacy for you and your passengers.

  • Glare Reduction:

By blocking a significant portion of light, it reduces glare from the sun, making driving more comfortable.

  • Temperature Control:

A 25% tint helps keep the interior cooler by blocking a large percentage of incoming light and heat.

  • Sleek Appearance:

Many drivers appreciate the modern, stylish look that a darker tint provides.

Cons of 25% Tint

  • Reduced Visibility at Night:
Driving can become more challenging in low-light conditions, such as at night, during heavy rain, or in unlit areas.
  • Safety Concerns:
Reduced visibility, especially when changing lanes or backing up at night, can be a safety hazard.
  • Legal Restrictions:

Tint laws vary by state and location, and a 25% tint may be illegal in your area, potentially leading to fines.

Considerations

  • Legal Limits:

Always check your local laws regarding window tint percentages for the front side windows, as these are often more restrictive than rear windows.

  • Driving Habits:

If you drive frequently at night, particularly in areas with poor lighting, a 25% tint might not be the best choice due to reduced visibility.

  • Visibility vs. Privacy:
A 25% tint is a good middle-ground choice that offers more privacy than lighter tints while retaining better visibility than very dark tints (like 5%).

Does window film or tinting provide evening privacy when interior lights are on?

No, window tint does not provide privacy at night when interior lights are on. If you’re truly interested in full, nighttime privacy, without the use of shades or window coverings, a one-way mirror film with night vision is your only option. (this is not an option for cars, but is available for homes).
